OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAUndertaking Traineeships in Agriculture are Dylan Lennard, Brendan Button, Kadjana Skinner, Robert Scott, Byran Malay and Wesley Karadada.

Myroodah not only aims to produce good quality cattle for their commercial livestock business, but also, and perhaps more importantly we are striving to produce good quality cattleman for the future of the northern cattle industry.

The Indigenous Land Corporation has a training program in place whereby Indigenous Australians who are unskilled in this industry but enthusiastic to learn, are employed to undertake a Certificate 2 in Agriculture. The traineeship spans a 12 month period with the aim of full time employment at the completion of their training.

On Myroodah we successfully incorporate the trainee stockmen in to our weaner camp which plays a very important role in the smooth running of the commercial business. It is a great back-grounding and learning environment working with the weaners. It involves educating them in the cattle yards, tailing them on horseback, processing them, and finally walking them away on horses to their new paddocks.

The training program is not all smooth sailing, there are plenty of challenges to overcome along the way and some who start the program do not stick it out to completion. But those who do succeed and complete the traineeship, graduate with skills worthy of employment on any station in the north and we proudly recommend them.

I asked some of our current trainees to answer a few quick questions about themselves.
