Host: Kalyeeda Station Written by Barb Camp – Station Hand, Kalyeeda Station. One of the best things about living on a station is the animals we get to have around the place. We’ve had orphan dingo pups and injured wallabies. Corellas that have fallen out the nest and brolgas that like living in the machinery shed. […]
Host: Kalyeeda Station Written by Barb Camp – Station Hand, Kalyeeda Station. We call it club Kalyeeda, and to be honest, it’s a bit of a big deal. They say the crew that parties together stays together and I know I’ve partied with some of the best friends you could hope to meet on the verandah […]
Host: Kalyeeda Station Written by Barb Camp – Station Hand, Kalyeeda Station. Hi everyone, My name is Barb, I’m a 27 and live on Kalyeeda Station in the East Kimberley with my husband, James and his family – the Camps. We raise Brahman cross cattle for sale primarily via live export on the our 120,000 hectare […]
Host: Dampier Downs Station Written by Anne Marie Huey – Manager, Dampier Downs Station. There aren’t many days off in the middle of the cattle season. When I lived in town, weekends were a chance to sleep late, maybe wander down to the local coffee shop for a lazy breakfast and a leisurely peruse of […]
Host: Dampier Downs Station Written by Anne Marie Huey – Manager, Dampier Downs Station. Many of the recent stories on this site have detailed the excitement – and hard work – that is part and parcel of a standard mustering round. Here on Dampier Downs, while we do use helicopters as well, we also use […]
Host: Dampier Downs Station Written by Anne Marie Huey – Manager, Dampier Downs Station. You’ve heard about the big horizons, the scrub bulls, the good horses, and all the adventure of living and working on a remote cattle station. You’ve got the Wranglers, the boots, and the ute and you’ve decided to head north to […]
Host: Dampier Downs Station Written by Anne Marie Huey – Manager, Dampier Downs Station. When I said “No more puppies!” I did not expect to come home from town one day to find two tiny kittens installed in my kitchen. These little cats, one girl, one boy, had been abandoned by their mother and were […]
Host: Dampier Downs Station Written by Anne Marie Huey – Manager, Dampier Downs Station. Living and working on a cattle station can sometimes feel a little isolated. Don’t get me wrong – for a lot of people who choose this life the remoteness and lack of crowds are major drawcards. However, this doesn’t mean we […]
Host: Dampier Downs Station Written by Anne Marie Huey – Manager, Dampier Downs Station. I really like grass. There, I’ve said it, I admit it – I’m a grass nerd. This is a fact that gives Mike no end of amusement, but I’m proud of it. The fact is, the pastoral industry is built on […]
Host: Dampier Downs Station Written by Anne Marie Huey – Manager, Dampier Downs Station. Welcome back to Dampier Downs. It has been a busy year for Mike and I since I last hosted this blog. Our development plan is well underway, and while it is a bit scary to now carry a lot more debt […]
Host: Saltriver Horsemanship Written by Heath Stewart – Owner, Saltriver Horsemanship and Performance Horses. Industry training is really fulfilling as there is a real purpose to it. Mustering cattle on horse back can be exhilarating or incredibly frustrating depending on how well your horse is going. One of my favourite sayings is if you’re doing […]
Host: Saltriver Horsemanship Written by Heath Stewart – Owner, Topstock WA Feed Services. Today I will put on my Topstock cap. It was more by chance than design that I got into Topstock WA Feed Services. Dad encouraged me to take over the business saying “you can’t ride horses all your life” (though it turns […]
Host: Saltriver Horsemanship Written by Kellie Stewart – Owner, Saltriver Horsemanship and Performance Horses. I usually oversee the business at home when not conducting horsemanship clinics or studying horse and human behaviour. Currently I am working on our online learning course so we can assist people when we can’t physically be there. There is so much […]
Host: Saltriver Horsemanship Written by Heath Stewart – Owner, Saltriver Horsemanship and Performance Horses. Usually the station clinic run is broken into 2 or 3 blocks, but last year with Easter being earlier we managed to sequence the run. First cab off the rank was Roebuck Plains where Doug takes on quite a few young […]
Host: Saltriver Horsemanship Written by Heath Stewart – Owner, Saltriver Horsemanship and Performance Horses. Teaching horsemanship is one of the most inspiring things I get to do, particularly station horsemanship. When I was younger we were all doing the best we knew, but thanks to information becoming more freely available we have learnt much more […]
Host: Saltriver Horsemanship Written by Heath Stewart – Owner, Saltriver Horsemanship and Performance Horses. My father had spent many years in the Kimberleys as a young man, so when I finished boarding school he suggested I do the same, and arranged for me to go to Jubilee Downs with Keith and Karen Anderson. Dad drove […]
Host: Farrcombe Contracting Written by Raine Pugh – Owner, Farrcombe Contracting. So as our week on Central Station draws to a close, our crew has just completed educating and branding 2000 weaners here at West Elsey Station. It feels like a massive accomplishment for both the dogs and the crew. We are very pleased with […]
Host: Farrcombe Contracting Written by Raine Pugh – Owner, Farrcombe Contracting. Often you come across lots of different characters who sign up to work for you. Last year we employed a guy who was a plumber from Melbourne with no previous outback experience. ‘Plumber’ as we named him was a real quick learner and within […]
Host: Farrcombe Contracting Written by Raine Pugh – Owner, Farrcombe Contracting. We have a team of 14 dogs which we use for work. The dogs travel everywhere with us, making it difficult when wanting a couple of days off in town. Interstate or international holidays are impossible as none of our friends are that keen […]
Host: Farrcombe Contracting Written by Raine Pugh – Owner, Farrcombe Contracting. Of course with any job there are days where things just don’t go according to plan. However, not every job promises the possibility of rolling into your swag at 8.30pm, but due to things not going according to plan you are now still walking […]
